Concert/Marching Band Course Descriptions
Concert/Marching Band ~ MU0520
This is a course for wind and percussion instrumental students interested in developing their technical proficiency on at least one instrument. In addition to advancing their performance skills students will be expected to gain an aesthetic appreciation of music so that they may learn to become a functioning member of any musical ensemble. Students are also expected to contribute to the musical growth and pride of the school and community by participating in various functions such as concerts, football games, parades and assemblies. Evaluation of each student’s academic grade includes listening assignments as well as participation in marching events, assemblies, concerts and other musical functions and individual performance on their instrument. Students will also be required to attend one group lesson per cycle, on a rotating basis so that individual help may be given to each student. Extra rehearsals will be required throughout the year prior to performances as needed.
Concert/Marching Band ~ MU0521 - CP
This course is an extension of MU0520 and is designed for more serious, dedicated musicians. The class / ensemble meets at the same time as MU0520. Beyond the Standard Level Requirements of MU0520, students who elect MU0521 will be expected to complete additional requirements. These requirements include a “public performance”, and a higher level of musical proficiency during lessons, performance exams, and scale tests. CP level band students are also required to successfully complete various levels of Music Theory on the “Auralia” computer software program as well as an additional listening assignment per year.
